Oral Health in Care was developed after research into the aged-care sector revealed a significant and ongoing issue: many facilities lack standardised, reliable processes for daily oral health care. Carers often express uncertainty about what steps to follow, and without clear guidance, essential aspects of care can be unintentionally overlooked.
This lack of consistency contributes to a broader national concern. Studies show that elderly residents in aged-care facilities have some of the poorest oral health in Australia, experiencing high rates of untreated decay, gum disease, infection, and oral discomfort. Poor oral health is not an isolated issue — it is strongly linked to serious systemic health complications, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes complications, and reduced nutrition. As Australia shifts toward a more holistic and person-centred healthcare model, oral health must be recognised as a vital component of overall wellbeing.
Oral Health in Care was created in direct response to these challenges.
Our app is a user-friendly, purpose-built solution designed specifically for aged-care facilities and carers supporting elderly individuals. It provides a clear, step-by-step daily guide for managing each resident’s oral health needs, ensuring carers always know exactly what needs to be done and when.
Allow Oral Health in Care to take the guesswork out of daily oral health care — Oral Health in Care makes it easy.
By offering structure, clarity, and confidence, our application ensures that crucial steps are never missed, supporting safer, more consistent, and higher-quality care for every resident.

By ensuring residents receive the oral care they truly need, families gain peace of mind knowing their loved one is being supported with compassion, clarity, and confidence.
Our mission is simple:
To raise the standard of oral health care in aged-care settings, empowering carers and
improving the wellbeing of residents across Australia.
My name is Tahnee Wilson, and my experience in the dental industry spans over 11 years. I began my career as a dental assistant, moved into a practice manager role, and continued to expand my knowledge by completing a Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy, a Bachelor of Dental Health Science, and graduating from my Masters of Dentistry in 2026. Throughout this journey, my interest naturally gravitated toward improving oral health outcomes for vulnerable communities — especially elderly Australians, a group whose oral health needs are often overlooked, yet deeply impactful.
It was through research in this field that I identified a major gap: aged-care facilities lacked a practical, standardised, easy-to-use system for daily oral health care. The more I explored this issue, the clearer it became that a tool like this wasn’t just helpful — it was urgently needed.
Throughout my professional and research experience, it became clear that many aged-care facilities across Australia lacked consistent, standardised processes for daily oral health care. Carers frequently expressed uncertainty about the correct steps to follow, not because they didn’t care, but because they weren’t given the tools, training, or time to confidently support residents’ oral health needs.
At the same time, research repeatedly showed that elderly residents in aged care have some of the poorest oral health in the country, and this isn’t just a dental issue. Poor oral health can lead to pain, infection, difficulty eating, malnutrition, and serious systemic health complications . I saw firsthand how a resident’s comfort, dignity, and quality of life could be profoundly affected by something as simple as the condition of their mouth.
That’s when the vision for Oral Health in Care began — a simple, practical, user-friendly tool that would support carers, protect residents, and bridge the gap between dental knowledge and aged-care practice.
I wanted to create an app that:
Oral Health in Care was built with one purpose:
to make a meaningful difference in the everyday lives of those who rely on aged-care services and those who work so hard to care for them.
By empowering carers with clarity and confidence, we protect the people who matter most — our parents, grandparents, and loved ones.
My hope is that this app becomes more than a tool. I hope it becomes a trusted companion for carers, a reassurance for families, and a step toward raising the standard of oral health care across Australia.
